Challenge
Addressing Water Woes in Rural Meghalaya
Water scarcity and contamination pose severe health risks in rural Meghalaya. Diarrhea, fluorosis, cholera, hepatitis A, and trachoma are rampant due to inadequate and contaminated water supplies. The Smart Village Movement, in collaboration with Watsan, undertakes the challenge of finding cost-effective water and sanitation solutions to combat these issues.
SVM Solution
Launching the Water Testing Pilot Project
In response to the critical water challenges, SVM initiated the Safe Drinking Water project with partner Watsan, who provided the necessary water testing kits for this project. The primary goal is to conduct water testing in 50 SVM treatment villages, aiming to identify and alleviate key pain points:
- Inaccessibility to Potable Water
- Contamination of Water Resources
- Prevalence of Waterborne Diseases
