Launch of the First Drone Delivery Network in India

Smart Village Movement, December 10, 2022

Meghalaya’s Health Minister, Shri. James P.K. Sangma inaugurated the first state-wide drone delivery hub for healthcare supplies on-demand at Jengal Sub-Divisional Hospital on November 05, 2022, making Meghalaya the first state in India to have a fully functional drone delivery network. This is a promising solution to address the challenges of timely medicine delivery, especially in remote and hilly terrains like Meghalaya.

The drones can be a cheaper alternative than manned aircraft and allow for faster and more reliable deliveries, having a significant impact on medical treatment in remote areas. The drone pilot was a collaborative effort between Smart Village Movement, TechEagle, and the Government of Meghalaya to study the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of using new-age logistics solutions for healthcare.

The success of the pilot led the government to incorporate drone delivery facilities into the state’s healthcare system to improve access and delivery time of medicine, vaccines, and blood to remote locations.
