Smart Village Movement at NASSCOM | Smart Village Movement Foundation in USA Receives Public Charity Status | Launch of SVM Partner Chat Series | Blog: Just Three Questions

Dear Friends,

2022 was a pivotal year for us. It marked three years of our pilot program in Meghalaya. As we reflect on the past year, the progress and scaling of some key projects in the areas of Healthcare, Education, and Drone Logistics bring us closer to fulfilling our mission of sustainable rural development in India.

Last month, we had the pleasure of presenting our model of Open Innovation at the NASSCOM Center of Excellence, and connecting with some of the industry’s most respected experts and innovative technology start-ups. Another long-awaited development – SVM has now received Public Charity status in the United States as Smart Village Movement Foundation and donations are now fully tax deductible. We are particularly grateful for the generosity of our donors, who have paved the way for us to execute some truly meaningful projects in 2023.

We want to take a moment to honor SVM supporters and donors Mrs. Rika and Mr. Manu Shah in Orange County, California for their philanthropy and social impact with initiatives in education and employment. We encourage you to read an inspiring piece about their philosophy and the value of soft philanthropy in the Blog, Just 3 Questions. Please, do continue supporting SVM through your ideas and contributions.; Every dollar counts, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity.

As we look forward to the new year, we are excited to continue working towards our mission of making a positive impact in the world.

Thank you for your support, and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Smart Village Movement Team

Smart Village Movement at NASSCOM

It was an exciting day for Smart Village Movement at the December ‘22 NASSCOM-CoE event in New Delhi. Our colleagues, Anna Fitter, Director of Communications, and Tulenam Laloo, State Director, Meghalaya, had the opportunity to present Smart Village Movement’s open innovation and collaboration model, which focuses on scaling pilot projects as sustainable rural solutions on the ground.

This was a great opportunity for like-minded and goal-oriented organizations to come together and discuss ways to build sustainable rural development solutions. It was an engaging event meeting the remarkable NASSCOM team, innovators, startups, and funders and bringing them into the SVM ecosystem to facilitate pilot projects. Read More

If you could fix one problem, what would it be?

We started our journey at MSI to create jobs. Today, MSI supports 400,000 jobs around the world, including in India. Because there are not enough jobs in rural areas, young people often migrate to cities. While it is easier to find a job in the cities, it is difficult to find housing. This is why slums are created. The type of work that MSI does in stone and in porcelain creates jobs in rural areas.

There are many challenges with creating jobs in rural areas. One big challenge is preparing young people in rural areas for the jobs of the twenty-first century. To do this, we support early childhood education initiatives focused on children between the ages of six months and five years. If we miss this window, then the children that are behind will remain behind in education and in work for the rest of their lives. Read More
