Smart Village Movement (SVM), championing rural development through sustainable innovations, has been working to bridge critical education gaps in India’s villages. One such area of focus is Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)—the basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills every child needs to succeed in life. Despite increased school enrollments, many children in early grades struggle with these core competencies, especially in rural and remote regions.
To address this, SVM, in collaboration with Madhi Foundation, has joined hands with the Samagra Shiksha to improve classroom learning outcomes at the foundational level undr the FLIP Programme. As part of this effort, a three-day Cluster Training was conducted from May 7–9, 2025, in Samanda Block, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, focusing on empowering teachers, cluster resource coordinators (CRC’s) and block resource person (BRP”s) with effective pedagogical tools and strategies.
This initiative is part of SVM’s broader vision to build smart villages where children are not left behind but equipped with the essential literacy, numeracy, and life skills they need to thrive in school, work, and life.
Teachers were grouped by school clusters to improve accessibility and participation.
Key Highlights & Outcomes:
- Teachers shared that the Teacher Handbook (THB) has significantly enhanced their lesson planning and delivery—making them more precise, engaging, and effective.
- Many teachers noted a marked improvement in students’ comprehension of basic Math concepts after implementing THB strategies.
- Champion Teachers were identified and awarded certificates for their exemplary performance and commitment.
On the concluding day, the training was honored by the presence of key district education officials—Smt. Santimoyee D. Marak (District School Education Officer), Shri Samuel K. Sangma (Sub-Divisional School Education Officer), and Shri Augustine D. Marak (Block Mission Coordinator). Their presence and encouragement greatly motivated the participating educators and reinforced the shared mission of improving foundational learning across the region. A special thanks to Shri Samuel K. Sangma for extending his unwavering support to the FLIP Programme.
